What started as a way to discreetly give a shout out to smoking weed, has evolved into a cultural phenomenon. We’re talking about 4/20. 

According to legend, a few high school students in San Rafael, California used the term 4:20 to refer to the time they planned on getting together to smoke some herb after school. It’s believed they chose 4:20 because all five were student athletes and extracurricular activities usually wrapped up by then.

Then due to their connections with members of the Grateful Dead, use of the term spread across the country and around the world. No longer did the term only refer to a time to smoke, but also an entire day (4/20) devoted to celebrating cannabis and cannabis culture.

How Will You Choose to Celebrate 4/20 This Year? 

Some people commemorate 4/20 by smoking a little herb and going to a concert or music festival. Others choose to get together with friends to enjoy some cannabis infused edibles or drinks and perhaps watch a movie.
